Note to add: this is actually the Avengers Art Appreciation variant cover to Wolverine #304.

This is the other cover that caught my eye from the DC comics for April 2012: it’s the cover to the first Starman Omnibus, drawn by Tony Harris, which I include for nostalgia reasons. I’ve got all the issues, and it’s nice to see Harris’s style from that era.

I’ve already posted a couple of covers from the DC comics for April 2012, but here are a few more. This cover is amazing: Cliff Chiang draws a fantastic cover for Wonder Woman #8.

MTV Geek posted this cover to Secret Avengers #26, drawn by Alan Davis, which is a special tie-in to the Avengers Vs X-Men story. Alan Davis drawing Captain Britain makes me a happy chap.

This is the cover to issue #1 of Avengers Vs The X-Men, drawn by Jim Cheung. He is one of the best artists for drawing lots of characters on a cover.

The news that Garth Ennis will be writing an ongoing Shadow series is amazing. This is the Howard Chaykin cover for issue #1 to celebrate.

The Graphic Content blog posted some issue #2 covers, the best of which was Fairest #2 by Adam Hughes. The man can draw beautiful visuals …

“I drew Alan cos I’m a fan of his work and his musings… I always admire folks who can communicate their everyday thoughts in a colourful and compelling manner, plus he seems to have an excellent sense of humour so I figured he wouldn’t be offended if he ever saw this image. As to why he is flowing from the ink bottle, well it started out as a simple portrait and then I got the idea to make him a wizard, and then that just turned into a genie, which was enhanced by the ink bottle as it ties it all in with the printed matter/comic book inking thang.”

Holmes and Watson

The updating of the Sherlock Holmes stories by Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss has been fantastic, and the performances by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the leads have matched the excellence of the scripts. The final episode in the second series is tonight, so it’s the perfect time to reblog this great sketch by Phil Noto.

Art Adams keeps drawing great covers, I’ll keep posting them. This is for Secret Avengers #25.
