I found this using the words ‘Alan Davis X-Men’ in Google: this is the black and white art for a poster advertising The Fall of the Mutants storyline. I remember seeing this in comic books the first time round (yes, I am that old), and it still looks good.

DC comics for April 2010: Jock is a great cover artist, and is the best cover artist for Scalped. This image is for the sixth collection for this fantastic series, and it’s another cracking visual. I love the use of space and the power of the image itself.

DC comics for April 2010: this is the cover (drawn by Cliff Chiang) for the third collection of Gotham Central, the brilliant police procedural set in Gotham City, by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka. Apart from the fact that it’s a great image, it’s also for a great comic book.

DC comics for April 2010: I really like the covers for the new Human Target series. This is for issue #3 by Sean Phillips.

DC comics for April 2010: I don’t know if this really works as a cover for a comic book (I don’t have a clue what the book is about based on this image), but I really like this piece of art for Nemesis: The Imposters #2, which I think is by Cliff Richards.

DC comics for April 2010: this is the Andy Clarke cover to Batman and Robin #11, which looks pretty sharp and dynamic, something it has to do well if it is to outshine the Frank Quitely covers.

(Belatedly) DC comics for April 2010: this is the cover for Green Lantern #53 by Doug Mahnke. I’m not reading Blackest Night (or much of the DC mainstream superhero universe), but this is a cool and classic cover.

I’d never seen this before: this is the Wizard Guide to Marvel’s Manhattan. It was in a post on Bleeding Cool. It made me smile, so I had to post it. [You can see a large version here]

This is the Jason Pearson variant cover to Ultimate Enemy #1. Looks suitably atmospheric.

Marvel comics for April 2010: this is the cover to Deadpool & Cable #25 by Simone Bianchi, which is an interesting piece of art. It would look even better with Cable holiding a baby, but you can’t have everything.

Marvel comics for April 2010: this cover to X-Factor #204 by David Yardin is approaching the level of Kevin Maguire when it comes to facial expressions, which is the highest praise I can give it.

Covered is a blog where artists do their own versions of classic comic book covers. This is Fantastic Four #26 by Anthony Vukojevich, and it’s fantastic (if you’ll pardon the pun).

Marvel comics for April 2010: my fondness for Marvel’s merry mutants mean that I have a soft spot for this variant cover to Uncanny X-Men #523 by David Finch.
