In looking for yesterday’s image, I discovered Marvel’s wallpaper section. Today’s image is an old selection from that database. John Cassaday has a great eye for an arresting visual, so I couldn’t help but post this.
Even though I will be waiting for the trade, I had to post the cover for the first issue of Astonishing X-Men by Warren Ellis, which comes out this week. Simone Bianchi draws a damn fine comic book, as this cover demonstrates.
Another Terry Dodson cover I found while looking for the work of artists who draw the ladies in that nice way. This is called Wizard Ladies.
I just heard about the death of Michael Turner from cancer. I wouldn’t call him one of my favourite artists but he had an eye for good cover and he was apparently a good guy. Requiescat In Pace.
Another artist known for drawing the superwomen – Ed Benes. Hints of Michael Turner with a European feel, Benes is all about drawing females. I don’t know what this image was for, but it sums up his ethos: the image is called DC and Marvel Grils Gone Wild.
Ryan Sook is another artist who draws beautiful people (even his ugly people look good) and who also has a nice eye for cover design; his interiors are good too, but I tend to post cover images. This is a Countdown special, but you shouldn’t hold that against it.
Another variant cover, another artist who knows how to draw curvy women – Frank Cho on Ultimates #3.
Sketch cover variant for X-Men #500 by Terry Dodson.
Final image from the DC solicitations: the cover for Ambush Bug: Year None #3. I can’t wait for this series.
Another image from the DC solicitations. This is for a collection of Justice League International by Keith Giffen, but the important thing is the delightful art of Kevin Maguire. This is a great cover. The glorious detail, the genius of his facial expressions, the gorgeousness of his women – he’s another on my list of favourite artists.
