DC solicitations for September: Jock’s covers for the great Scalped trade paperbacks (and the individual comics) are great, and this one for trade number 5 is no exception. I collect this series in the TPB format, so I always like to note when they are due to come out (I just got the fourth trade, and it was fantastic).

DC comics for September: although I don’t enjoy Jack of Fables, it has some of the most beautiful covers in mainstream comics from Brian Bolland. This image, for issue #38, is no exception and alludes to the themes of the central character and to Bolland’s covers for Grant Morrison’s Animal Man.

DC comics for September: the cover for Wildcats #15 is another cracker from Ryan Sook. Sook mixes the design sense (the weapons in the background) with the dynamic and sleek figurework of the two superheroines in the foreground.

DC comics for September: apart from my love of Walt Simonson’s art, I like this cover because hanging Batman on the front of your comic book is a great way to go. This is the cover for Vigilante #10.

DC comics for September: there’s something about this cover that captures a certain idea in comics, to do with movement and power and grace and energy, but it’s also Batman and Robin getting ready to punch each other. This is Red Robin #4 by Francis Manapul.

Time for DC solicitations for September: this is the cover for Final Crisis Aftermath: Run! #5 by Kako, and it’s a doozy. That is what I call an eye-stopper, attention-grabbing, double-take comic book cover.

The final cover for a Marvel comic for September, this is another Jason Pearson for Punisher Annual #1. It’s pretty sharp and made even funnier by the two women watching the action. I’d definitely buy an entire comic of Punisher drawn by Jason Pearson; they’re a good fit.

Yet more Marvel comics for September: this is the cover for Incredible Hercules #134 by Rafael Alberquerque, which just made me smile (in addition to it being exquisitely drawn).
