“Joss Whedon:The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth” for GQ Magazine, May 2012. Art director: Benjamin Bours.
It’s always a treat to do some editorial illustration, and when it’s a portrait of somebody as beloved in the comics scene as Joss Whedon, I couldn’t ask for a better subject.
DC comics for June 2012: a smattering of covers from the solicitations that piqued my interest. This is the cover to Wonder Woman #10 by Cliff Chiang: a death Wonder Woman carrying two pistols is pretty awesome.
I’ve already posted a couple of covers from the DC comics for April 2012, but here are a few more. This cover is amazing: Cliff Chiang draws a fantastic cover for Wonder Woman #8.
80’s X-Men (and New Mutants!) - originally B&W in SplashPage Artbook.
70’s Marvel Girls - originally B&W in SplashPage Artbook.
DC comics for August 2011: being a collection of covers from the solicitations that caught my eye. This is the cover to Flashpoint: Deadman and the Flying Graysons #3 by Cliff Chiang. I love the retro design to this visual, and the little elephant is the icing on the cake
DC comics for February 2011: Cliff Chiang draws simple but classically rendered covers. I like his art style, so I post his cover for Secret Six #30.
This is the Cliff Chiang variant cover to Justice League: Generation Lost #10. He draws beautiful covers, doesn’t he? [Via The Source]
Marvel Girl & The X-Men | Cliff Chiang
This is absolutely amazing, and it’s just a sketch! (You can see more over at Chiang’s website here.) I’d like to see this done properly by the awesome Chiang.
Cliff Chiang posted some visuals along with his notification of his appearance details for San Diego Comic-Con 2010, which gave me the excuse to post one of them: this was labelled as World’s Finest; go to the link see some more lovely art.
Cliff Chiang posted the great news that he’s doing three more Star Wars posters; this one is See The Galaxy. See the post for the other two, which are equally awesome.
Cliff Chiang posted a bunch of sketches he did for HeroesCon 2010, and they are awesome. Click on the link to see all of them. This is Wonder Woman.
DC comics for April 2010: this is the cover (drawn by Cliff Chiang) for the third collection of Gotham Central, the brilliant police procedural set in Gotham City, by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka. Apart from the fact that it’s a great image, it’s also for a great comic book.
Cliff Chiang did a bunch of illustrations of comic book heroes as album covers, of which this version of the Teen Titans as The Breakfast Club is my favourite. For more, see the io9 article where I saw it.
Images from artist’s sites: the thing with artists is that they aren’t great with deadlines. Therefore, regular posting on blogs and sites isn’t going to happen. However, the art you can find can be quite cool. Case in point is this image, the evolution of a cover to Green Arrow and Black Canary by Cliff Chiang, a fantastic artist who has got a great sense of design. This is the sort of thing I’m looking for when I go to the site of an artist.
