This is a print of Wolverine that Leinil Francis Yu did for San Diego Comic-Con 2009, but I only recently discovered it [via Comics Alliance Best Art Ever (This Week)]. It looks even better in pencils than the colour version.

Marvel comics for March 2012: my final choice of cover is for Uncanny X-Force #23, drawn by Leinil Francis Yu. Yes, there’s Captain Britain and Meggan, but look: it’s Widget, from the very first storyline in the ongoing Excalibur series. Geek glee.

Marvel comics for March 2012: this is the cover for Avenging Spider-Man #5, drawn by Leinil Francis Yu. I do love the classic superhero trope of ‘hero fighting hero’.

Marvel comics for February 2012: my final cover from the solicitations is Uncanny X-Force #21 by Leinil Francis Yu, who draws a good Nightcrawler.

Marvel comics for January 2012: this is the cover to Uncanny X-Force #20 by Leinil Francis Yu, which is another cover with a lot of people in the visual but focussed by the stillness of Fantomex in chains in the foreground.

This is a lovely sketch of a Japanese-themed Wolverine by Leinil Francis Yu, and I love the simple elegance of it.

Marvel comics for December 2011: my usual selection of the covers from the solicitations that caught my eye. This is the cover to Defenders: Strange Heroes, by Leinil Francis Yu, which is a collection of profiles of the various characters who have been Defenders. But who cares: it’s got a Yu cover.

Leinil Francis Yu artwork continues: this is the cover for New Avengers #29, which is packed with superheroes but still dynamic and clear.

On my ‘writing’ blog, I recently compiled some thoughts on the artwork and career of Leinil Francis Yu. In doing so, I came across some Yu art that I hadn’t seen before, so it made sense to post some of that art here, on my ‘art’ blog. I don’t know exactly what this is for, but the file was labelled ‘Civil War’, so make of that what you will.
