Dark Horse comics for May 2013: a few covers that caught my eye. This is the cover for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #21, drawn by Phil Noto. I really like the way Noto captures the likeness of the characters from the TV series, and this is another beautiful visual.
Artist Appreciation: Phil Noto’s Hank Pym’s Photo Archive.
This is one of my favorite projects by an artist. Not only is each of his works beautifully detailed, but Noto also seems to turn these fictional superheroes into real life people. I love the use of actual dates in order to show us a glimpse into the real lives of these characters. I feel like I would see this “photographs” in old issues of TIME Magazine or something. Fantastic.
Previous Phil Noto posts: Havok and Polaris, Betsy Braddock (1983), and Winter Storm (1978).
I love this so much
He’s so great at making them real.
Oh wow, these are so lovely.
I want a coffee table book of this.
Lovely. I agree: would love to have a whole book of these on my coffee table. No story necessary. Paging Marvel - can’t you guys plleeeeeezze make this happen?
I was not prepared for how this would make me feel: it’s not just incredibly cool, it’s surprisingly emotional.

THUNDERBOLTS
This is the first image I drew of the Thunderbolts team. It’s now going to be released as the Issue #7 variant cover.
Uncanny X-Force - The last issue of Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force comes out today. Rick along with Jerome, Dean, Esad, Mark, Billy, Greg, Mike, David, Julian and Frank created hands-down one of the most exciting comic series to hit the shelves in years. Rick and I have been friends for a long time and it was a dream come true to collaborate with him on this. Thanks to all of you who bought and supported the book!
This is the variant cover for Journey Into Mystery #646, drawn by Phil Noto. An exquisite image from Noto, as always.
Dark Horse comics for December 2012: this is the cover for Buffy Season 9 #16, drawn by Phil Noto. I think that Noto draws the best likenesses on Buffy covers, but there is also artistry in the rest of the visual – I like the way that the tram car is coming in front of Xander’s and Dawn’s arms.
Havok and Polaris
Marvel comics for October 2012: this is the cover for Astonishing X-Men #55, drawn by Phil Noto. I love this cover: it’s a great piece of design and a lovely illustration.
